Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout: Review

The Lagunitas Brewing Company
Petaluma, California, USA

Limited Release
Ale Brewed with Coffee
9.2% abv
29.5 IBUs
$6.99 bottle
22oz bottle

No date on the bottle.  The company website says that it is not available in 2013 – interesting.

Appearance: light black body with a big cola like edges; not much on the head and no lacing.

Aroma: sweet caramel malts; roasted coffee beans;

Flavors: sweet cappuccino; lightly toasted caramel notes; toasted sugars; moderate coffee like bitterness; not complex in flavor;

Mouthfeel: almost semi-creamy like feel is the best I can do; too thin to me for a stout; medium to medium-full body; not complex but, the flavors are nice; very low carbonation – just a tad of fizz; roasted notes linger and so does the sweet cappuccino; 30 IBUs seems low for a stout.

To the Point: a little too much like a cotton candy cappuccino to me; in other words – just a tad too sweet for a stout; if you like your coffee sweet, if you like your coffee with cream or cream and sugar – this is it for you; I’ll pass but, this might be good for my wife – with this girly like coffee style.  Yes, I said, ‘girly.’

Beer Advocate has it as 87 with 2,200+ reviews and the bros have it at world class at 96.  I’ll go with 81.  It’s nice but, too sweet – but it is a Cappuccino Stout.
