John Henry Colonial Cream & Brown Ale: Review

Cold Spring Brewing Company
Cold Spring, Minnesota, USA

Double fermented Cream Ale blended 50/50 with our Brown Ale
And aged with Brandy Oak Spirals
9.3% abv

Appearance: muddy brown with a very thin light tan head and not much on the lacing front; the color settles to a dark chestnut

Aroma: light on the nose when it is fresh out of the fridge; toasted malts; toffee; touch of brown sugar; maybe a hint of that Brandy Oak Spirals – the Brandy note shows up more as the ale warms up;

Flavors: firm toasted malts; toffee, vanilla; light alcohol peppery spice; lightly burnt brown sugar; the oak comes thru on the taste buds with a touch of Brandy

Mouthfeel: low carbonation – very light fizzy feel; medium-full body; alcohol warmth; almost creamy feel; the oak comes thru on the aftertaste with the toasted malts;

To the Point: nothing overpowering here; making for an easy to drink Brandy Oak Spiral Aged Ale; enjoyable sipper; remember sipper – for it is easy to drink – the alcohol does not really play a big role in the flavor; let this ale sit for 20 minutes or so before serving; I would buy this again; this is my first bottle and I’ll give it a B+ at this time
