JK's Solstice Hard Cider: Review

Farmhouse Organic Limited
Spiced and Unfiltered
Almar Orchards
Flushing, Michigan, USA
6.9% abv
$7.99 pint bottle

On the bottle: “Lightly spiced with ethically traded cinnamon, vanilla and a wee drop of syrup from old Maple trees on our farm.”

Appearance: shiny golden body with burnt orange highlights

Aroma: apples with a hint of spice

Flavors and Mouthfeel: super sweet apple cider hits the tongue first and then a big dose of spice, the bottle says ‘lightly spiced’ but I have to call it moderate to moderate-full spiced; I recognize the cinnamon.  The maple syrup and the vanilla mingle together – I can’t pick them out.  The maple syrup is probably adding to the overall sweet taste.  The carbonation had some life to it at first and then it just disappeared.  It has a light fizzy feel.

To the Point: since this is a winter hard cider and this is summer I’ll just say that I might try it again in the winter time.  The spice style just didn’t seem refreshing here in the heat of summer.
